- The most Ukrainian woman I know
- Was born English, Italian, and can even sew
- I know this all, because this is our mom
- I’ve heard the stories of where she is from
- Cabbage rolls, perogies and pasqua bread
- Growing up, this is what I was fed
- We never had spaghetti and pasta’s and things
- Ukrainian food is what my mom brings
- I’m not complaining because my mom’s a great cook
- I just have one recipe she never got from a book
- My dad and I were the only ones there
- When my mom made scalloped potatoes with tender and care
- They were brown on top with a different taste
- I looked at my dad and we knew not to waste
- We stared at my mom with a loving stare
- We said what is up with the potatoes over there
- She said, with a sigh of relief
- It’s butterscotch pudding, to our disbelief
- It was an accident that it was put on top
- She did not want to start over, the dish was a flop
- Now we should have known, as my mom had none
- Passing this off on the husband and son
- We never ate any more of it, that was enough
- But boy did we laugh about our butterscotch stuff!
